Police have launched a manhunt after a police car and a stolen vehicle crashed in Fort William.
Scorch marks and burnt hedges remained at the scene of the weekend crash between an Audi and a marked patrol car on Sunday night.
The female passenger and male driver of the black Audi A4 fled the scene after the crash in Glen Nevis Road, Caol.
The car burst into flames following the incident which happened at around 10.15pm – but the blaze was quickly brought under control and no-one was injured.
The Audi, which was stolen from nearby before the collision, was seen earlier on Torlundy Road.
The passenger in the car has since been detained and is helping police with their inquiries.
Local officers last night urged the driver to come forward.
A Glen Nevis Road resident said: “I didn’t see the actual crash, but I saw the car on fire. It was up on the kerb and into the hedge and the whole inside of it was ablaze. It was a good-going fire. You can see the marks on the kerb and the burnt hedge.”
The road was cordoned off during the incident as firefighters tackled the flames. A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “One appliance attended from Fort William and two hose reel jets were used to bring the fire under control. The crew was at the scene for just under an hour.”
Chief Inspector Bob Mackay said: “A passenger from the Audi has been detained and is assisting police with inquiries. We are also looking to speak to the male driver who may have information that can assist with our enquiry. I would therefore urge him to come forward to confirm he is safe and well.
“I am also appealing for anyone who hasn’t already spoken to police to come forward as they may have information that can assist with our investigation.”
A police spokesman said on Monday that the fire was caused by a fault with the vehicle.
