A 31-year-old Inverness mother was found with drugs inside Inverness Prison during a visit to see her partner.
But Claire Cassels of Cranmore Drive, Inverness didn’t try to smuggle them in, Inverness Sheriff Court heard yesterday.
The court was told that she was struggling to cope with her long-term partner’s incarceration and she relapsed into illicit substances.
Defence agent Marc Dickson told Sheriff Margaret Neilson that his client had managed to combat an addiction but relapsed because she was coping badly with him in jail.
“She was not trying to introduce the drugs into prison.” Mr Dickson added.
Cassels admitted possessing 0.3 grams of heroin and a substance she wrongly believed was valium.
Fiscal depute Martina Eastwood said: “Prison staff found the heroin in her jacket in a locker.”
Ms Eastwood added that when police were called she told officers she had valium in her underwear.
“But it appeared it was not.” Ms Eastwood went on.
Cassels was fined £300.
