A man who accosted a village shopkeeper and threatened him with a machete attack escaped a jail sentence yesterday.
Alexander Johnston, 54, had been drinking when he entered the shop at Reay, on February last year, Wick Sheriff Court was told, yesterday.
He adopted an aggressive manner and challenged the shopkeeper -“Come round at fight me, big man”. Johnston also called him “a fat bastard” and threatened to return with a machete and “have you”.
Johnston, of Mill Cottages, Stainland Drive, Thurso, admitted threatening or abusive behaviour and a record and was given six months in which to demonstrate he can stay out of trouble.
