Dr Thomson, 66, and his wife, Maris, were at a cheese and wine fundraising event in Kilchrenan village hall on Saturday night. It is understood that they became separated as they walked back to their friend’s house in the dark. His body was found in Kilchrenan Burn in the early hours of Sunday morning after a search involving police and the fire service. Dr Thomson, an officer in the TA, retired from his job as a mechanics lecturer in January. A spokesman for Glasgow University said: “His passion was educating the next generation of engineers and he leaves behind a significant legacy.”
