The body of a man has been recovered from the sea near a beauty spot on Skye.
The man was recovered from the water near Kilt Rock in the north of the island around 4pm yesterday.
Police said last night there are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances and they are trying to trace the man’s next of kin.
He was found after a major search operation in the area yesterday following a 999 call from a member of the public around 11am.
The Portree lifeboat and the coastguard helicopter from Stornoway both dispatched to the scene.
Several local coastguard teams were dispatched, with support from the Stornoway team which was airlifted by helicopter.
Police and fire service personnel also attended at the scene.
The man was found during searches and he was assisted by medical professionals after being recovered from the sea.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The man has not been identified but it is understood he is a French national.
Inspector Lynda Allan said: “We are making efforts to contact the man’s next of kin.
“There are no apparent suspicious circumstances and as is standard a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
Kilt Rock is a sea cliff south of Staffin and is a popular tourist attraction.
Its name comes from its distinctive basalt columns which are said to resemble the pleats of a kilt.
Meanwhile coastguard personnel and the Kyle lifeboat were deployed after concern was raised for a person was raised by a member of the public.
It was reported that shouts were coming from the water.
The local coastguard team and police searched the area but did not find anything of concern.
A coastguard spokesman said it is believed the shouts may have come from a diver calling his boat after surfacing.
