More than 20 firefighters battled late into the night to tackle a massive, mile long blaze near Loch Ness.
Five crews were called to the scene of the wildfire at Dores shortly after 7.30pm last night.
Teams worked to move the blaze away from nearby properties and no damage to buildings was reported.
However, the fire was well established and a spokeswoman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed this morning that the flames spread through the heather for more than a mile.
Fire crews were finally able to bring the blaze the blaze under control at 2.24am this morning but operations to establish the cause of the fire will continue later today.
The spokeswoman said no injuries had been reported as a result of the blaze.
