A monthly market will become a permanent fixture in Oban town centre following the success of the first one this weekend.
The event in the newly developed public space at Station Square was organised by local business improvement district company, Bid4Oban.
Businesses in and around the town took part, with 14 stalls in total.
Derek Connery, chief executive of Bid4Oban, said: “We were open from 11am until 4pm and the food suppliers particularly did really well in the first hour, then there was a steady flow of people all day.
“The real take back from it was the fact that folk kept saying it was nice to see something happening in the town.
“Paradise Kitchen sold out of jam, the butchers said it was probably the best market they’ve ever been at. Cakebreads garden centre were delighted because it reminded people they are still in town, as their permanent location is not particularly visible.”
He continued: “Station Square was really good. We need to be better planned to make the best use of the space, because it is a great space in the town centre with the biggest footfall in the town.”
Stalls provided everything from smoked fish to insurance cover.
The market was organised to help generate footfall in the town and to promote businesses which are a bit more off the beaten track by reminding people about what is on offer.
In previous years shops in the town centre protested to Argyll and Bute Council about a continental market which they said took business away from them.
Mr Connery added: “Having a market organised by the businesses in the town should ensure that it grows in popularity and becomes an asset to the town rather than to the detriment.”
The Highlands and Islands Music and Dance Festival, which takes place from April 28-May 1, also had stall promoting the event.
Organisers of the festival handed out leaflets to let people know about the performances and competitions which will be taking place during the festival.
