Delays likely on southbound A9 for three weeks

Delays are likely from Monday due to essential roadworks on the A9 southbound near Daviot.
Delays are likely from Monday due to essential roadworks on the A9 southbound near Daviot.

Essential road improvements could mean delays for drivers on the A9 between Inverness and Perth over the next three weeks.

Resurfacing work begins this morning, eight miles from Inverness.

The £350,000 improvements, near Daviot, were scheduled by roads agency Transport Scotland.

A 600-yard stretch of the southbound dual carriageway, south of the village, will be resurfaced over three weeks to address any defects, cracks or potholes.

The agency says it will create a smoother road surface on the section and improve safety for all road users.

The works will be restricted to weekdays, between 7am and 7pm. No works have been scheduled at weekends or on the May Day Bank Holiday on May 1.

For the safety of workers and motorists, a 10mph convoy traffic management system will be in place during working hours.

Outwith those hours, a lane closure will remain in place for the safety of motorists until the upgrade is complete.

Eddie Ross, Bear Scotland’s north-west unit representative said: “The £350,000 investment will greatly improving the condition and safety of the route in this area.

“We’ve taken steps to limit the impact of these works by avoiding working at the weekend and the bank holiday.

“Our teams will do all they can to ensure that we complete the improvements as quickly as possible.

“We thank motorists in advance for their patience whilst we carry out these surfacing improvements and would encourage motorists to plan their journeys in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date travel information and to allow extra time for travel.”
