The northbound carriageway of the A9 at North Kessock was closed for a short while following an accident.
Two fire appliances and police were called to the scene during rush-hour but there are no details at present about how many vehicles are involved.
Traffic Scotland tweeted a picture showing that traffic building up shortly after the carriageway was closed.
Inverness Caledonian Thistle fans heading to the Highland Derby with Ross County at Dingwall have been advised to travel north via Beauly.
They said just before 7pm that one lane had re-opened.
ICT officials have since tweeted that tonight’s game will be delayed due to the accident. Kick-off will now be at 8pm, 15 minutes later than scheduled.
