Police are appealing for witnesses after a fuel tanker was involved in a “dangerous” overtake on the A96.
The incident occurred in Nairn at the crossroad junction with Harbour Street and High Street at around 4pm on April 26.
Police said the fuel tanker overtook eastbound stationary traffic waiting to enter the yellow box junction.
Officers are particularly keen to speak to the driver of a black Vauxhall Astra or Vectra type vehicle that would have been travelling west and turned off the A96 onto High Street and a works van that turned right onto the A96 from Harbour Street that appears to be a blue or grey colour with a company logo on the rear panel.
There were also pedestrians standing on the footway waiting at the crossing point next to the yellow box junction markings.
Investigating officer constable Tracy Fisher said: “The road was busy with traffic and pedestrians at this time and I am appealing for witnesses to come forward to help us with this inquiry. It was very fortunate that it did not result in a far more serious incident taking place.”
If anyone witnessed this incident, or has any information it is requested they contact Police Scotland on 101.
