Firefighters spent nearly six hours yesterday (Wed) battling a large wildfire on the Ardnamurchan peninsula.
The fire, which at its peak measured 500 acres (0.8 sq miles) in size, started at Dalnabreac near Acharacle, shortly before 12.30pm.
A total of four appliances – one each from Acharacle, Strontian, Kilchoan and Fort William – attended and about 25 firefighters used main jets to extinguish the flames.
A fire service spokeswoman said that three more fire crews – one each from Mallaig, Fort William and Spean Bridge – also spent several hours tackling a much smaller wildfire near Arisaig, close to Beasdale station, which started just minutes later.
The fire service spokeswoman said that this fire measured about 25 acres in size.
No properties were evacuated as a result of either fire.
Another two wildfires broke out in the area near Beasdale station in the morning but were quickly brought on under control.
The spokeswoman added that there were several reports of wildfires across Scotland yesterday due to the dry and windy conditions.
