A major search and rescue effort has been launched to find a diver who is missing off the south coast of Orkney.
A UK Coastguard spokesman said that the diver vanished in an area on approach to Scappa Flow, close to South Ronaldsay, within the past hour.
He said that the diver was under the watch of a commercial shellfish diving vessel which had a “problem drifting” in the water, but upon returning to the original dive site could not find them.
Thurso lifeboat and Orkney’s Longhope lifeboat have been launched along with the coastguard’s search and rescue helicopter from Shetland.
Two other commercial vessels, along with the Pentalina passenger ferry, are assisting with the search.
