A Sutherland business has been honoured at the Scottish Independent Retail Awards.
Carnegie Whisky Cellars of Dornoch’s Carnegie Courthouse fended off strong competition from across Scotland to win the coveted National Off licence of the Year Award for 2017.
The awards, in which winners are chosen by the public, pay tribute to independently owned local businesses.
Open less than a year, the Whisky Cellars are bringing the title north after being pitted in the final against established companies from Edinburgh and Stirling, as well as last year’s winner from Glasgow.
The Dornoch business has wowed visitors since opening in 2016 with a meticulously selected range of new release and rare whisky bottlings, as well as a variety of liqueurs and other spirits.
Dr Paul Monaghan, SNP candidate for Caithness Sutherland and Easter Ross, supported the Whisky Cellars in their bid to win the award and has been in touch to pass his congratulations.
He said: “When locals shop at establishments like the Whisky Cellars, they’re supporting jobs for local employees, they’re inspiring others to open businesses nearby, and they’re contributing to the sustainability of a vibrant local economy.”
