The SNP yesterday accused the Conservatives of “shameless hypocrisy” and “failing to support migration into Scotland,” in the wake of the Zielsdorf family’s departure.
Their deportation came 24 hours “after the Tories tried to claim Scotland was an unattractive place to live,” according to the nationalists.
The SNP’s Drew Hendry, who intervened in the case, said: “The Tories should be ashamed to force an entrepreneurial family out of their community, depriving the area of a thriving business.
“It’s utter hypocrisy for the Tories to claim Scotland is an unattractive place to live and work, when it’s the Tory government who are driving successful business people out of Scotland and doing their level best to prevent people coming to live here.”
He added “When the Home Office isn’t deporting Canadian business owners who want to invest in rural Scotland, Theresa May is telling foreign born doctors they’re no longer welcome in the NHS.”
A spokesman for the Scottish Conservatives said: “This is deliberate confusion from the SNP, which knows fine well (Tory MSP) Murdo Fraser was accusing the nationalist Scottish Government of making Scotland seem unattractive to others.”
