The family of a man who is believed to have drowned in a Highland loch is holding a memorial service for him.

Joachim Brolly was last seen heading out on a small boat on Loch Awe in Argyll on March 9.

He was at the Torran Bay Hostel, which he ran, at the southern end of Loch Awe, before he got into the boat.

His body has never been found and Mr Brolly’s family reported that police believed he drowned in the loch.

A statement on the Torran Bay Hostel social media page says: “We will be holding a memorial service for our dad, Joachim Brolly, on Wednesday June 14, 2017, at the hostel.

“It goes without saying, it’s not been the easiest time for our family but the kind messages, cards and flowers that we have received from those who have stayed at the hostel have meant a lot and we would like to thank you.

“We would like to invite those, who came to know our Dad, to join us in celebrating his life and many achievements.

“Our Dad loved meeting new people, telling stories and hosting those who stayed. So we feel it would be fitting that he gets to be the host (albeit absent) one more time.

“Let’s let the stories and memories make the day for him.

“We would love to have some of you stay at the hostel on the day, however, we will be reserving the hostel for family.

“Should you need accommodation, Kilmartin Hotel is only 10 minutes away by car and Lochgilphead is 20 minutes.

“My Dad always gave money to the Salvation Army as he respected the work they did and how they helped people. We will be doing a collection for the Salvation Army should you wish to donate.”
