A new drive to deliver apprenticeships in Gaelic is to be launched.
The move is at the heart of Skills Development Scotland’s new Gaelic Language Plan.
Launched yesterday, it sets out how the skills agency will support Gaelic language and set targets for success.
It plans to deliver existing foundation and modern apprenticeships in Gaelic where there is a recognised need, pointing to health, social care and childcare, as well as the creative industries, as areas of demand.
Other measures include working with partners to develop new resources including up-to-date Gaelic labour market information, utilising Gaelic staff resource to expand services in schools delivered through the language, developing web resources and promoting Gaelic careers.
Derek MacKenzie, the agency’s Gaelic development officer, said: “This plan sets out a formal structure for our support of the Gaelic language until 2020, with new initiatives and clear measurable targets that highlight Skills Development Scotland’s commitment to the Gaelic language and culture.”
