Tiree Music Festival proved to be a hit yet again – despite being blighted with wind and rain which damaged tents.

The sold-out island festival was headlined with an amazing set by Scouting for Girls on Saturday night.

Sunshine eventually made an appearance for yesterday’s crowds after the bad weather meant that some campers had to be moved on Friday night.

Festival organisers pulled out all of the stops to ensure these campers were re-homed and a large group from such diverse locations as Bremen, London, Lesmahagow and Bridge of Allan were all provided with an alternative tent to sleep in on Friday and Saturday night before the TMF team helped them repair their own tent to sleep in on Sunday.

Mum-of-three, Claire Meikle from Lesmahagow, who was part of the group, said: “I remember hearing about the storm in 2015 and all of the stories about how the TMF team acted really quickly to make sure everyone was warm and dry.

“I thought I can definitely take my boys there because, if something goes wrong, I’ll definitely be looked after.

“I came along for the first time last year and we had a couple of rainy and windy nights, but our tent held out against the elements.

“But this year, it succumbed. However, as I thought, the TMF team swooped in and went out of their way to make sure we were all looked after and were warm and dry!”

Performers during the weekend included Tide Lines, Dougie MacLean, Skipinnish, Gary Innes and Gunna Sound.

The multi-award-winning Skerryvore, who formed on the island of Tiree in 2004, closed the festival with a lively crowd who nearly brought the Big Top Tent down with their singing, cheering and foot-stomping.

Community Director of Tiree Music Festival, Stewart MacLennan, said: “This year has been amazing, the audience has been one of the best yet and the acts that have performed have once again been unforgettable.

“The sunshine finally came out for us, but we were really pleased to be able to help the campers who needed it on Friday night.”
