There has been an outpouring of support for the family of a little girl killed in a horrendous accident.
Eight-year-old Kayla MacDonald died after logs fell on top of her while she was walking on Beinn Lora near Oban with her grandfather and his 12-year-old daughter on Sunday.
Now almost £9,000 has been raised in less than 24 hours after a Just Giving page was set up. The money is intended to support her family through this difficult time.
Kayla lived in Dunbeg with her mum Karina MacPherson and her dad Alastair (Ettie) MacDonald and two younger brothers.
A memorial service will take place for Kayla at Oban Parish Church on Tuesday at 1pm.
The Just Giving page was set up by Lachie Brown, Mr MacDonald’s cousin.
Mr Brown said: “The purpose of this is to try and get them through these next few months. Neither of them will be working.
“I have only spoken to Ettie a couple of times since Sunday, clearly he is very distressed. Ettie is a remarkable character. The resilience that both he and Karina have shown in the last couple of days in pulling the family together and making arrangements for Kayla’s memorial next week is just extra-ordinary. I am not sure I would have been able to do that.
“The family is very proud of the resilience Ettie has shown in pulling everybody together. He is clearly still shocked and devastated.”
He added: “I had a lot of contact from people looking to send flowers and to do something. I decided to put this page up so that people could show their support.
“I only thought about this yesterday. I put it on last night (Thur) at 8pm and I’m astonished at the shear generosity of people from Tiree, Oban and all around. It is truly astonishing, just humbling.”
