Failing to slow down near a Lochaber primary school has cost an employee of the University of the Highlands and Islands £400.
Myra McCabe, 60, of Kincraig, pleaded guilty to careless driving following the incident on the A86 at Roy Bridge last year.
Martina Eastwood, depute procurator fiscal, told Fort William Sheriff Court yesterday that the incident happened on November 25 near the primary school in the village.
“It was at 8.45am and the electronic signs which warn drivers to reduce their speed to 20mph as they are approaching a school were illuminated.
“She was recorded driving at 42mph when the school was open.”
McCabe’s solicitor said the incident was a “one-off” as she has been driving for more than 36 years without incident.
He added: “She works for the student support service at the University of the Highlands and Islands and often has to go to Fort William.
“She usually tries to get in for 8am, but was a bit later that day.
“She apologies for her unusual mistake.”
As well as the fine, she had six penalty points added to her driving licence by Sheriff Eilidh MacDonald.
