Residents in Inverness spoke yesterday of their growing concern about community safety in the wake of a series of tragic events in a confined area of the city.
Police were last night maintaining a presence at the Kintail Crescent home of 78-year-old Murdo Mackinnon following his unexplained death on Monday.
Forensic experts spent a second day examining the single-storey house, which remained sealed off.
His was the latest in a series of tragedies within a few hundred yards of each other in recent years.
Just over a year ago, Liz Mackay was murdered in her Kintail Court council home nearby – in the same property where another woman, Ilene O’Connor, was murdered a decade before and buried in the garden by her killer.
Mr Mackinnon, who was retired, lived quietly according to close neighbours.
It is understood that he was a widower and, according to several neighbours, had recently broken up with a partner.
Evelyn Earle, who lives in the area, said: “My biggest fear in raising my four daughters around here was the drugs and underage drinking with the teenagers but actually there’s quite a lot of murders going on, it’s getting quite scary.”
