AA charity box containing cash to help a vital Lochaber rescue service has been stolen.
It’s the second time money intended for the Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team, LMRT, has been taken from local premises this summer.
The collection box was stolen from a temporary portacabin at the Glen Nevis visitor centre in Fort William.
The premises were broken into between Sunday and Monday, August 20 and 21.
The busy visitor centre is closed for refurbishment and staff are using the portacabin until the work is complete.
A police spokesman said: “A distinctive purple box containing a quantity of cash for the Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team was taken. Another smaller box containing money collected for a local bird feeding initiative was also stolen.
“Anyone with information in relation to this incident should contact Fort William police station, telephone 101.”
Heartless thieves also stole a collecting tin – to support the work of the LMRT – from a local holiday park.
The theft from the Linnhe Lochside Holidays caravan park at Corpach happened over the weekend of July 21-23.
Manager, Claire Wood, said: “We have been here for 13 years and can’t recall anything like this happening before.
“We collect for other charities too and have tins in other parts of the site, but this one was for the local team who do so much to help people on the mountains.”
John Stevenson, leader of the LMRT, said: “It’s a pretty poor show. I suppose tins like these are easy targets, but I feel really sorry for all the people who put in donations.”
