A solution to save Mull’s only sheltered housing complex is being proposed, an association has revealed.
Trust Housing Association, which operates Glen Iosal in Tobermory, had funding from the Argyll and Bute Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP) withdrawn.
The £20,000 housing support is no longer available from April 2018, forcing the Trust to cut its warden hours.
Trust previously told residents this left it with no choice but to downgrade Glen Iosal.
However, after much campaigning by the local community, the partners agreed to meet up and attempt to find a solution.
Rhona McLeod, chief executive at Trust Housing said: “A meeting was held with Trust Housing, Argyll and Bute Health and Social Care Partnership, Michael Russell MSP and Councillor Mary Jean Devon.
“When discussing future services at Trust’s Glen Iosal development in Tobermory it was acknowledged that there is a lack of alternative provision on Mull and strong community concerns existed. Consequently, a bespoke solution, with minimal visible change, is being proposed between Trust and the health and social care partnership. This would allow the present level of targeted support and care to all residents to remain in place, and include support for the onsite coordinator.
“This solution would aim for as little change as possible to existing levels and hours of provision and be sustainable for the long term. There would be meaningful consultation and discussion as new arrangements were implemented with a robust plan being in place before the changes took effect in April 2018.
“These proposals will be discussed further at Trust’s Board meeting on September 21.”
