The main road into Oban was closed for several hours yesterday after a lorry leaked what was thought to be acid.
Rush hour traffic heading into town was backed up with the closure of the A85 Oban to Perth Road at the Halfway House Filling Station, Dunbeg.
A police spokeswoman said they received the call about a lorry leaking liquid onto the road at 8.40am.
The A85 was closed for six hours until one lane was reopened at around 3pm.
A spokeswoman for the fire service said: “The fire service put sand down on the affected roadway then washed the spillage away. It was a chemical spillage which needed a scientific adviser out to identify it before we could clean it up.”
Police advised any motorists who had driven through the chemical leak to wash their tyres if they were concerned.
