Youngsters from Dingwall were celebrating yesterday after winning the top prize in the under-13s folk group competition at the Mod.
The 11- and 12-year-olds call themselves Deárrsadh and they fought off stiff competition from eight other groups to win £500.
A total of eight groups from all over Scotland entered the contest, performing two songs of their own choice accompanied by musical instruments.
Highland Council has supported this event for the past nine years, but it is the first time a cash prize has been given by Wipro, an international technology services corporation.
Caol and Mallaig councillor Allan Henderson, who presented the prize to the winners, said: “It’s been a delight to watch the young people perform to such a high standard.
“It is obvious the support which is provided to schools in relation to traditional music is bearing fruit for the next generation.”
