A man was airlifted to hospital yesterday after a crash involving a car and a van closed the A9.
His condition was described as serious, but not life-threatening, following the collision near Aviemore.
The road was closed for one-and-a-half hours while emergency services attended the scene where a BMW 3 Series and an Iveco van had collided.
Police said a 44-year-old man is being reported to the procurator fiscal in connection with the crash.
An eyewitness described weather at the scene as “rainy, grey and miserable”.
The accident occurred south of Aviemore’s north junction, a quarter of a mile from where the new dual carriageway starts.
Southbound traffic was queuing for some time, a motorist said.
A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We dispatched two ambulances, an officer and our helimed air ambulance to the scene. One patient was taken to Raigmore Hospital by helicopter.”
A spokesman for the fire service said: “Operations control mobilised four fire appliances to the incident that involved a lorry and two cars.
“No persons were trapped in any of the vehicles.
“Firefighters stabilised the vehicles and made the area safe.”
A police spokeswoman said: “The road was closed and was partially re-opened at 1pm, fully reopened at 1.30pm. The two vehicle crash involved a 3 Series BMW and an Iveco curtainside van. A 44-year-old man is to be reported to the procurator fiscal.”
