It was double delight for the Smith family at the Mod yesterday as twins Holly and Lucy won the David CB Maitland memorial trophy for singing a duet.
The 15-year-olds, who look very alike but have different-coloured hair, sang in the contest for 13-18-year-olds in St Andrew’s Church in Fort William.
Even though the twins, from Falkirk, don’t speak Gaelic, it is the second time they have won a duet competition at the Mod.
Their mum, Rhona, said: “They won a duet contest last year but it was in the under 19-year-olds section. My parents are from Barra and both speak Gaelic, so they have been a big influence on the girls. We have a house on the island and spend a lot of time there.”
