A diver has died after getting into difficulties in the Sound of Mull.
The alarm was raised by a dive boat yesterday morning. Tobermory Lifeboat and a rescue helicopter were sent to the scene, where a man was pulled from the sea.
A spokeswoman for the MCA said: “We got a call at 10.15am on a VHF radio from a dive boat which reported a diver in difficulty in the Sound of Mull.
“We sent the Tobermory RNLI all weather lifeboat and the UK Coastguard search and rescue helicopter from Prestwick.
“The diver was winched from the lifeboat and transferred to hospital in Oban.”
A police spokeswoman said: “At 11.20am police were called to a report of an unconscious diver who had been rescued from the sea in the Sound of Mull near Oban. Emergency services attended and the man was taken by Helimed to Lorn and Islands Hospital in Oban.
“He has since died.”
