Bosses at the Inverness HQ of global recruitment firm Orion Group have issued a worldwide warning of an online fraud and scam targeting their clients and contractors.

The company, a leading recruitment provider to a number of industries, particularly the oil and gas sector, is currently investigating the fraudulent activity which is seeking personal details.

The Orion Group has offices all over the world, employing thousands of people.

Scott Burns-Smith, the company’s marketing and communications director based in Inverness, issued the alert on Wednesday.

He said much of the fraudulent activity was taking place in Canada and Asia, but the warning has gone company -wide to make clients and contractors aware of the potential threat.

He is not aware of it being targeted to anyone in the north as of yet.

He added: “Our global online partners have been advised and we thank anyone who has already contacted us regarding these fraudulent accounts as and when they have been found.

“The Police are involved and the special Cyber Crime Unit are investigating.”

The Orion Group website warns: “Please be aware that we are currently investigating fraudulent activity whereby an individual(s) are requesting personal details using a company name similar to ours – do not respond to anyone claiming to be from Orion Recruitment Solutions or Jobs Tower Recruitment Solutions.

“If you are contacted by anyone called Carolyn Cartagena or are asked to send emails to the following email addresses do not send – this is an online scam/fraud.”

It adds: “Do not respond to anyone from Orion Group using a non @orioneng.com email address. We do not operate our communications using, @hotmail, @Gmail, @yahoo or any other mail providers.

“Do not send your CV/resume or any personal details to the individuals if you are unsure of their authenticity.

“Do not engage in any communication and delete the message.

“Check any documents for poor spelling and grammar – this is often a sign that fraudsters are at work.

“If you have any further details or questions or are unsure on who you are speaking to within Orion Group please email: marketing@orioneng.com.”
