Police patrols aimed at preventing retail crime during the festive period has led to a significant reduction in shoplifting in the area.
Just one shoplifting offence was reported during the month of December in the Easter Ross area.
This compares to eight in November – meaning a 87.5% reduction month to month.
Alness-based Sergeant Anna Johnston said: “We anticipated a higher than usual footfall in our town centres during the festive period.
“Officers have worked with retailers and other partners on preventing shoplifting and have also carried out targeted patrols to deter anyone considering committing a theft.
“We’re pleased that this has led to just one offence being reported during this period.
“We will continue to work with the trade to maintain this reduction in retail crime.”
Officers carried out high visibility patrols in supermarkets and high streets in key shopping areas in the area such as Dingwall, Alness, Invergordon and Tain.
