Police have recovered a car from Wick Harbour after it plunged into the water.
A man was rescued from the harbour yesterday and remains in a serious condition in hospital.
Inspector Marlene Macdonald confirmed that the car was recovered from the harbour earlier today.
She added: “A man was rescued from the harbour yesterday and taken to hospital for treatment.
“He remains in hospital in a serious condition. Nobody else was involved in the incident.
“Our inquiries are ongoing and we would urge anyone who saw a white Ford Fiesta in the area around the harbour yesterday morning to contact us by calling police in Caithness on 101.”
Police were called to the incident at about 10.20am yesterday morning.
Wick lifeboat coxswain, Ian Cormack, said he was told the man was found lying on the quayside by members of the public and that it appeared he had got himself out of the water by climbing up a ladder. He was taken to Caithness General Hospital for treatment.
It was not initially clear if anyone else was involved as Mr Cormack said that the man was too shaken to communicate to the authorities whether anyone else was in the car.
