A Stornoway festival is travelling to India next month to celebrate the historic connections between Scotland and the South Asian country.
The Purvai Festival will be held at the Queen Elizabeth Cup Reception on February 9th prior to their large scale performance at The India Museum the following evening.
The performance was originally inspired by the life and collection of Stornoway born Colonel Colin Mackenzie, who became the first Surveyor General of India. It tells the journey of Mackenzie from the Hebrides to India through a confluence of Gaelic vocal traditions and Indian Rag.
The festival was a signature event for Scotland’s Year of History, Heritage and Archaeology 2017.
