Inverlochy Primary School went on lockdown after a male was seen with a weapon in Fort William this afternoon.
A male was spotted with a weapon in the Camanachd Crescent area of Fort William this afternoon.
Management at the primary school made the decision to have an immediate lock down until the situation was deemed safe.
Police have since made an arrest, Inspector Mike Middlehurst said: “I can confirm that the man has now been arrested and is in police custody.
“An item was recovered from the man which has since been confirmed as being a toy gun.”
Normal classes have now resumed at the school.
In a statement Inverlochy Primary School thanked the public for their support: “The school thanks those who phoned to inform them of the incident and to their staff and pupils who reacted admirably.”
