A walrus has been spotted on the Scottish mainland for the first time in more than 60 years.
Colin McLean spotted the mammal on Peedie Beach at Dunnet Head in Caithness yesterday.
What is thought to be the same walrus was spotted on a beach in Orkney earlier this month.
The last confirmed sighting of a walrus on the mainland in Scotland was in Aberdeenshire in 1954, although there were unconfirmed reports of one in the Banffshire village of Crovie in 1981.
Typically, walruses are usually found in the Arctic Ocean and subarctic seas but have been known to move as far south as northern Spain.
But this walrus seemed to be enjoying the slightly milder climates, basking in the sun – and the attention – it was receiving on the beach.
Another walrus was spotted on a beach in Orkney back in 2013, was hailed as a “once in a lifetime” opportunity.
