Police have confirmed the names of the man and woman who died following the one-vehicle collision at Little Loch Broom yesterday.
Ross McCrimmon, 44, and Rose Bassett, 48, were driving along the A382 Dundonnell-Aultbea road between Ardessie and Badcaul when their car left the road.
Emergency services and local rescue teams were called to the scene at about 3.45pm.
The road was closed for around six hours after the incident as search efforts continued into the evening.
Police road traffic investigators were among several teams on the scene as they began to try to piece together how the incident occurred.
And at about 8pm last night, a huge crane was deployed to pull the red Honda out of the water.
Road Policing Sergeant Gregor Hay said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the two people who have died at this sad time.
“Inquiries into this incident remain ongoing and we would ask that anyone who witnessed the collision or who saw a red Honda Civic travelling in the area at the time contacts police on 101 quoting incident number NE2595/18.”
Next of kin have been made aware.
The road has now reopened.
