An abandoned area of wasteland in Gairloch has been transformed into a vibrant community space so residents can enjoy the sights from across the Loch.
The land, located on Pier Road, has become the latest section of the Pier Road’s Wildlife Observation Garden, known to local residents as the “Sitooterie” creating a wheelchair friendly area adjoining the boat club slipway.
The funds for the project was raised through a community appeal, with an initial target of £500. Their target was met in just two days and within the space of a just one week, received enough money to fund the entire project.
Sitooterie co-ordinator David Carruthers was delighted with the communities efforts. He said: “I am yet again very proud and so overwhelmed by the support given to this ongoing project by the local community and beyond.
“It was very moving to witness a diasabled person enjoying the new area for over an hour just minutes after it was opened.
“I cannot thank the local community enough for their generosity and passion for this project which will be a wonderful amenity for years to come.”
