A pair of ospreys have returned to their nest in Lochaber for the summer.
Louis and Aila became social media hits after a live feed of their nest was installed by the Woodland Trust last year and they successfully raised a chick, Lachlan.
Their nest camera is situated at Loch Arkaig, west of Spean Bridge.
George Anderson, of Woodland Trust Scotland said: “Various ospreys started making brief appearances at the nest on Friday.
“There appears to have been a bit of competition and it is tricky to work out who was who, but on Sunday morning Louis and Aila were firmly in residence and starting to titivate the nest with moss and sticks.
“We are looking forward to spending another glorious summer watching an osprey family grow.”
The birds are much earlier this year than last. Louis appeared on April 10, 2017 but was not joined by Aila until April 28.
Two new osprey platforms were constructed ahead of this year’s season. These are not on camera and it is not yet known if ospreys have settled on them.
Two more platforms will be built later in the year.
