Two boat loads of rubbish were collected by volunteers from a remote beach on the isle of Mull yesterday.
The popular spot, known as the “waterfall swim” on the south coast of Mull between Loch Buie and Iona can only be accessed by boats.
Operators from Basking Shark Scotland were shocked when they visited recently and saw the scenic beach had become clogged by plastic and flotsam.
They sprang into action, organised a crowdfunding campaign to cover costs and recruited a team of volunteers.
Two boat loads of rubbish were brought back to Oban for recycling. The trash which had accumulated at the beauty spot included wellies, hard hats, pieces of rope, barrels, fish farm piping and tyres.
Shane Wasik from Basking Shark Scotland said: “We had some temperamental weather, the swell made landing on the beach a bit tricky. In terms of the clean up it went really well. We got most of it tidied up, we have left one boat load of material on the beach above the water line to collect later.”
