A teenager from Lochcarron in Wester Ross is back home recovering after falling seriously ill at an end-of-school leaving party on a beach.
Lucas Vye, 17, fell ill around an hour into the unofficial leavers party, sparking a multi-agency operation.
Coastguard teams from Kyle, Dunvegan and Portree and the RNLI Spirit of Fred Olsen lifeboat from Kyle assisted paramedics after party-goers called the emergency services at around 9.45pm on Thursday.
Police say there is no on-going investigation into the incident at Coral Beach near Plockton.
The incident caused fear and panic for the family as fears Lucas’ drink had been spiked circulated.
Sherrie Vye, Lucas’ mother, made an online appeal for information.
She said: “My son does not take drugs. If anyone knows what drug he has been given please let me know in confidence.”
In a follow up to her initial post on Facebook, Sherrie thanked friends for their kind wishes before adding: “Lucas was in a coma for 12 hours. He had been spiked within approximately 30mins of arriving at the party with GHB (gamma-hydroxybutyric acid, a party drug sometimes referred to as liquid ecstasy).
“A big thank you to Lucas’s friends, without their help he would be dead. The emergency services etc were wonderful.
“For those listening to rumours, here is what his day was really like. On the day of the party he had an Irish coffee at lunch with a friend. Came home from school. Lucas is my carer. He cooked two menus for our evening meal and got ready for the party.
“I took him to the train station, we had the usual chat about making sure he kept hold of his bottle at all times. This he did, but the bottle was uncovered. It really is so quick to just pop something in.
“Lucas rarely goes out to parties as he is quite quiet in groups and either prefers close friends or stays at home. I just hope that it hasn’t put him off going out to public events and parties in the future.”
