On ‘May the Fourth’ the Press and Journal can reveal that filming for the new Star Wars film will begin next month across the Highlands.
Filming for the new billion-pound trilogy will start in June and feature locations in Argyll as well as areas in the north of Scotland.
The famous pass between Loch Long and Loch Awe, Rest and Be Thankful, is one particular location that the filmmakers are keen to use.
A Galaxy all too near
Scotland is no stranger to the sci-fi series with numerous links to the Star Wars franchise.
In The Force Awakens, X-wing fighters were filmed flying across the highlands.
Carnoustie-born actor Ian McDiarmid’s featured in the Return of the Jedi, The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith as the evil Emperor Palpatine.
Trainspotting lead Ewan McGregor played the iconic Obi-Wan Kenobi in the prequel trilogy after his uncle appeared in the role in the original films.
Who can forget Ewan McGregor’s staring role as Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi and
his arch nemesis, Glasgow-born, Darth Maul played by Ray Park in the Phantom Menace.
Lewis MacLeod, from Torrance in Dunbartonshire also featured in the same movie as the voice of pod-racing alien Sebulba.
And in 1977, Scots star Denis Lawson played rebel pilot Wedge Antilles in A New Hope.
