The skills of the final year students at a prestigious west Highland ballet school will be showcased at the Corran Halls in Oban.
Kate Little, a second-year student from Oban, will be among the cast of dancers from Ballet West, which is based at Taynuilt.
Miss Little is on the BA Hons degree course, having started out on Ballet West’s Outreach programme.
The Oban showcase will take place on Saturday, May 19, at the Corran Halls and the event will be repeated at the Macrobert Arts Centre, Stirling, on May 27.
The event allows student dancers to demonstrate their skills with performances in classical ballet, modern ballet and contemporary dance during their three-year degree course, which combines training in technical dance skills with the more practical performing experiences required by dancers working today.
A spokeswoman for Ballet West said: “The showcase marks a transition for third-year students as this is their last performance as a student of Ballet West. It is the final assessment that the students take before graduating with a BA(Hons) in Dance, awarded by the Open University.
“It is also a wonderful opportunity for audiences in Oban to see these exceptionally talented students performing an exciting programme of classical and contemporary work before they set off on a professional career.”
This year’s performance will include a key piece from the classical repertoire, Paquita – Grand Pas de Deux, with a large corps de ballet, a grand pas de deux and a solo variation. Alongside this classical work will be contemporary newly choreographed pieces by award-winning choreographers, Indra Reinholde, Natasha Watson and Martin Fenton.
