A north-east songwriter will have his work performed all over Scotland as part of a new project during the next month.
Adam Ross, a former pupil of Rosebank Primary and Nairn Academy, has joined forces with Right Lines theatre company in a musical drama entitled The Isle of Love.
The 30-year-old was approached by the playwrights, Euan Martin and Dave Smith after the former heard one of Mr Ross’s songs called “Isle of Love”, which was recorded by his band Randolph’s Leap.
The lyrics provided the inspiration for the project and, after listening to the band’s back catalogue, Mr Martin and Mr Smith, created a story set on a fictional west coast island.
The songs, composed by Mr Ross, weave in and out of the story of island life and what draws people to such remote places.
Funding from Creative Scotland enabled the venture to be developed and put into production.
And rehearsals are currently in progress for an extensive tour across Scotland which begins in Eden Court in Inverness on May 17 and 18 and ends at the Universal Hall In Findhorn on June 16.
Randolph’s Leap are appearing as part of the Glasgow performance and Mr Ross has secured time off from his work with RSPB Scotland to provide live musical accompaniment for the whole tour.
He said: “My influences include landscapes, places, people and nature. I think that is what attracted Right Lines to my music in the first place and those are the main themes that run through The Isle of Love.
“Musically, I am a fan of Jonathan Richman, The Beatles and Belle & Sebastian in the way that they write catchy pop songs which tell stories.
“I am really excited about the new project and particularly looking forward to seeing how the songs connect with people in the totally new context of a theatre show.”
The company will also visit Fochabers, Aberlour, Portsoy, Ullapool, Banchory, Tarbert, Stornoway and Kilmuir on Skye.
