Ullapool High School has been awarded £15,000 to fund a project commemorating the fallen Lochbroom soldiers of the First World War.
As part of the project, a full-size replica of a First World War battlefield will be built to give pupils an idea of what life was like as a soldier. The wider community will also be able to experience life in the trenches.
The idea came from a book written after the war by a widow of a local soldier, entitled The Men of Lochbroom; commemorating the men who died in the conflict.
The students aim is to produce another book in their memory as several members of personnel have been identified as lost in action since the original book was made. A short film will also be made, showing the journey students went through to accumulate the book together.
The money was awarded by the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF).
History teacher Jemma Middleton said: “We at Ullapool High School are very excited about this project. The potential for community involvement and intergenerational learning makes this project of particular importance. We also feel that living in a village with such a rich history it is important that we make sure our children know about their heritage.”
