Armed police officers were seen on the A835 near the Tore Roundabout on Sunday evening as a man was arrested in connection with an assault in Golspie.
Two officers dressed in full body armour and holding firearms were spotted by the roadside.
The presence of armed police officers comes a week after Police Scotland announced it has officially extended the role of its armed response vehicle officers.
The announcement means that armed police officers will be sent to a host of non-firearms incidents to aid regular officers.

“The incident happened around 6.45pm on Sunday.
