Councillors involved in the Highland Council’s Environment, Development and Infrastructure Committee yesterday discussed the relevant measures required to maintain vital bus links in the Lochaber area.
As of June 30 Stagecoach will seize operations, closing its depot in the area in which it has served since 2008. Tenders are currently invited to bid to replace Stagecoach, with temporary arrangements expected to be made for the duration of the school holidays.
Chair of the Committee Councillor Allan Henderson said: “We know our communities have been concerned about bus services since Stagecoach made their announcement but I want to give people the reassurance that a lot of hard work is going on to keep any disruption to a minimum.
“Every effort is being made to encourage other local operators to apply for the replacement contracts and we are confident this can be achieved before the start of the school year.”
Members of the Committee delegated authority to the Director of Community Services to determine the appropriate level of service and in consultation with the Chair and Vice-Chair, over the awarding of the contracts on the 509: Corpach – Upper Achintore (evenings), 512: Kinlochleven – Fort William and 514: Roy Bridge – Fort William routes.
