Highlanders are to bask in sweltering sunshine over the Bank Holiday Weekend as temperatures are to soar to as high as 24C.
Forecasters are predicting both the Highlands and Moray will receive some of the best weather Scotland will see this weekend, with temperatures in places soaring well above countries including Spain, Portugal, Algeria and Australia.
While mist and haar saw temperatures dip slightly yesterday morning, Highlanders are expected to bathe in glorious sunshine over the weekend with forecasted temperatures of around 24C.
A spokeswoman from the Met Office said: “[There will be] plenty of warm sunshine in the Highlands throughout the Bank Holiday weekend, although it’ll be a little cloudier and cooler across the east, especially on Monday.
“Temperatures will be around 16-22C on Saturday and Sunday, rising up to 24C by Monday. The north-easterly winds will limit temperatures in Inverness.
Wick and Thurso in the far north will see highs of 12C as Portree in the Isle of Skye will relish temperatures of around 21C and 22C.
The hot weather has sparked warnings by police urging residents who plan to make the most of the sun to remain responsible.
Police in Lochaber are looking forward to the sunny weather forecast for the weekend – and encouraging people to enjoy it in a safe manner.
Sergeant Keith Almond, based in Fort William, said: “While we all enjoy the good weather, experience has shown us there can be a rise in anti-social behaviour in warm weather.
“I would urge anyone who intends to picnic, barbeque or camp at some of the many beautiful spots we have in Lochaber, to be sensible with alcohol consumption and be respectful of local residents and the environment.
“We are particularly aware of young people gathering at the Roaring Mill on the River Nevis, Fort William.
“We will be patrolling this area regularly but I urge parents to be aware of their children’s whereabouts and take steps to ensure their safety.”
