Adventurous youngsters will be able to enjoy the great outdoors surrounding Ben Wyvis as a playpark becomes the newest edition to a two-mile walking trail in the area.

The new playpark was officially opened at the Wade’s Bridge end of Forest Enterprise Scotland’s Two Bridges Trail at Little Garve, hosting an array of obstacles to entertain youngsters visiting the area.

The park, created by Lochluichart Community Trust, took a total of four years to complete and received £200,000 of community benefit funding from renewable energy company Eneco towards its completion.

Lady Eliza Melville, of Lochluichart Estate, and four-year-old Isla Stewart from Strathgarve nursery cut the ceremonial ribbon, alongside pupils from Strathgarve Primary School and members of the Forestry Commission, Eneco and the Garve and District Community Council.

Alongside the park and the trails, the site includes a picnic area comprised of several tables and benches and car parking.

Hazel Robertson, of the Forest Enterprise Scotland (FES) team in North Highland, said: “We were approached in 2014 by Sharon Wright, from the Community Trust, who came to us with a brilliant and well thought-out plan to develop a natural play area at Little Garve.

“We thought it was a great idea and leased the Community Trust the land under the old National Forest Land Scheme.

“It’s a great amenity for local kids who, in this part of the world, don’t have much to entertain them, so we were more than happy to be involved.”
