A 47-year-old man has died on board a supply vessel off the coast of Caithness.
The casualty was aboard the The Maersk Trader when he was reported being unwell and in need of rescue.
Shetland Coastguard were first alerted to the incident at 8.50am on Sunday, sending both the Shetland-based search and rescue helicopter and Wick Lifeboat to the scene.
However, prior to their arrival, the unidentified man was pronounced dead.
The casualty is believed to have remained on the vessel, as the boat made its return to port at Invergordon.
A police spokesman said: “Police Scotland was made aware of the death of a 47-year-old man on a boat off the Caithness coast on the morning of Sunday, July 8.
“There are no suspicious circumstances and a report has been sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”
