A diver found unconscious in the sea near Wick has died.
The 67-year-old man was recovered by Wick lifeboat yesterday afternoon after reports were received from a passing vessel of a diver found unconscious in the water.
The Coastguard search and rescue helicopter from Inverness was chartered to assist with the incident, attending the scene but being stood down upon arrival.
The diver was taken into the harbour before being passed on to personnel from the Scottish Ambulance Service.
A Scottish Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “We received a call at 13.35 hours today from the Coastguard to attend an incident at Wick harbour. We dispatched two ambulances to the scene.”
A police spokesman said: “Police Scotland can confirm that a 67-year-old man has died following a diving incident off the coast of Caithness.
“The incident was reported to police around 1.45pm on Tuesday, July 10.
“The man was recovered by the Wick lifeboat.
“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal in due course.”
