The MV Loch Seaforth turned back to Stornoway harbour after a medical emergency involving a baby.
The ferry was about one and a half miles south of Arnish lighthouse when it changed course about 7.20pm last night after an incident where a baby fell onboard the vessel.
An ambulance was waiting for the child at number three pier.
The vessel resumed her voyage to Ullapool at 7.55pm.
There is no word on the infant’s condition.
Cal Mac statement said: “The vessel was delayed by a medical emergency.”
The Loch Seaforth was one of many Western Isles ferries disrupted by a gale and rough seas yesterday.
Some services today will be running late due to the knock-on effect of the delays.
