The library at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig on Skye has received the remarkable book collection of the late poet and Gaelic language champion Sorley MacLean.
Numbering almost 1,800 titles, the collection includes old family books, prizes from the poet’s schooldays and presentation copies, as well as his personal acquisitions.
The family decided Sabhal Mòr Ostaig was the most appropriate place.
Born in Raasay in 1911, Sorley MacLean was a poet of international repute.
The writer, who died in 1996, was one of the college’s founding trustees and first writers in residence.
Library advisory committee chairwoman Dr Ann Matheson, said the collection “will be highly esteemed and cared for both for the present and for future generations”.
